Barry Ackroyd Wins EFA Honour

Ackroyd has won the Best European Cinematographer Award for his work on ‘The Wind That Shakes the Barley’ at the European Film Awards in Poland.

Cinematographer Barry Ackroyd has won the Best European Cinematographer Award for his work on ‘The Wind That Shakes the Barley’ at the European Film Awards in Poland.

Held in Poland’s capital Warsaw, the gala ceremony took place on December 2nd 2006. The British cinematographer shared the accolade with ‘Volver’ cinematographer Jose Luis Alcaine.

Irish civil war drama ‘The Wind That Shakes the Barley’ was nominated in five categories but was beaten by strong competition from Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck's thriller ‘The Lives Of Others’(Das Leben Der Anderen) and Pedro Almodovar's ‘Volver’ which shared the top awards.

German entry for the Oscar and Golden Globes, ‘The Lives Of Others’, won the Best European Film title along with Best Actor (Ulrich Muehe) and Best Screenplay. Pedro Almodovar picked up the Best Director gong for ‘Volver’ while the film’s lead Penelope Cruz was named Best Actress.
