The Darklight Film Festival 2006 opens today with screenings and workshops taking place throughout the city. Details of a number of free filmmaking and editing workshops have also been announced.
The festival will showcase short films, animation, documentaries and feature films in locations around Temple Bar, culminating with an Awards Ceremony on the 25th of June at the IFI. IFTN is sponsoring the highly contested Best Irish Short Award.
In addition previously announced Masterclasses, the festival has lined up a number of free workshops taking place over the weekend.
Subjects include;
Moving Images & Public Spaces: The Role of the Commissioner (Fri 23rd June IFI) with panelists Jane Doolan (Arts Council), Noemi Ferrer (Bord Scannan na hEireann), Lorcan Finnegan (media practitioner), Jane Gogan (RTE), Aisling Prior (Breaking Ground) and Paul Rowley (artist), and the panel will be moderated by Maeve Connolly (Institute of Art, Design and Technology).
3DS MAX, 3D Visual Effects For Film & TV (Fri 23rd June Filmbase) with industry Veteran Michael Langmayer from Autodesk demonstrating the key features of this powerful and most popular animation package.
HD For Everyone (Fri 23rd June Filmbase) with Eurotek demonstrating the key HD technologies from Sony, JVC and Panasonic.
And finally, Vast Valley Presentation on the MINI 35® Image Converter for Digital Cameras – HD & Cine Lenses (Sat 24th June Filmbase) – with Eurotek demonstrating how a “film look” is achieved using digital technology and traditional 35mm lenses.
These two workshops were developed in collaboration with Eurotek and with the support of Digital Media Forum.
