'About Adam' Confirmed for Irish Reels

Irish Reels, the Fourth Annual Irish Film and Video Festival presented by 911 Media Arts Center, plays in Seattle on March 7-10, 2001.

They have just confirmed the latest addition to this year’s program, About Adam, a Miramax film directed by Gerry Stembridge, and starring Kate Hudson, Stuart Townsend and Frances O'Connor.

"We have had a close affiliation with Gerry Stembridge since screening his first feature film, Guiltrip in the 1998 program of Irish Reels" notes festival program director, Caroline Cumming. "Being affiliated with Miramax is a great coup for Gerry and offers hope to other talented Irish filmmakers that they can get broader distribution for their films also."

About Adam also opens in select theatres on March 30th. Gerry Stembridge will be in Seattle on Friday, March 2nd. In order to accommodate this addition to the program, there are some changes to the festival schedule on Saturday March 10th. The revised schedule follows.

Revised Festival Program Lineup:
The festival will open at the Harvard Exit Theatre on Wednesday March 7th. Reception commences at 6.30pm, with the NW premiere of Roddy Doyle's latest project ‘When Brendan Met Trudy’, shown with the short, Finbar Lebowitz.

The program moves to 911 Media Arts Centre on Thursday March 8th with two documentaries, To Russia with Love at 7.00pm preceded by The Nook and Ahakista at 9.00pm, preceded by Essie’s Last Stand.

The Seattle Art Museum is the next point of entry on Friday March 9th. Playwright Conor McPherson's first screenplay, Saltwater is the first feature presentation on Friday night, at 7.00pm preceded by The Birthday. The second show at 9.00pm is Fintan Connolly's first film, Flick, preceded by the short entitled Therapy.

On Saturday March 10th, again at the Seattle Art Museum, the program will be split between the main Auditorium and the Lecture Hall throughout the day. Beginning the day will be a selection of shorts at 12.15pm. For Joycean enthusiasts, the first matinee is the feature film NORA which explores the relationship between James Joyce and Nora Barnacle. At 4pm in the lecture hall James Joyce: The Trials of Ulysses will be screened. UW Professor Emeritus of English Roger Sale will introduce the film and conduct a Q & A session. In the main auditorium at 3.30pm, the surrealistic fable by Frank Stapleton The Fifth Province will play.

About Adam will screen at 6.00pm on Saturday, March 10th in the Seattle Art Museum main Auditorium The closing night feature presentation is The Most Fertile Man in Ireland, preceded by Buskers. Dudi Appelton, Director of The Most Fertile Man will be present for a post screening Q & A. Closing night party will be hosted by Fado’s Irish Pub on 1st Ave South.
