Conflict of Interest
The Irish Film Board has reviewed its policy and procedures on conflict of interest with the intention of reconciling a relevant Board including members active in the film industry, with the highest standards of public integrity. The Board examined the codes of conduct and examples of best practice from ten equivalent film agencies in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Canada and has adopted stringent procedures to ensure that any board member who has an interest in a film will not be involved in decisions taken in relation to that project.
As a result, the Board has adopted the following Standing Orders relating to Conflict of Interest:
1. A Conflict of Interest arises when a member of the Board, or a member of the Board member's family or a person or corporate or other organisation connected with the member has an interest in any matter to due to come before the Board.
2. This conflict shall be communicated by the member in writing to the Chief Executive as soon as is practical when they become aware of it.
3. The Chair shall declare that Conflict of Interest at the meeting, which shall be noted in the minutes, and the member shall absent himself/herself from all discussions relating to that matter.
4. The Board member concerned shall not be directly informed of the Boards decision which will be communicated to the applicant in the normal way.
5. A Board member who becomes attached to any project subsequent to a board decision to support it shall notify the Chief Executive in writing who shall maintain a register of all such interests.
