The 4th Annual Film Fleadh wrapped on Sunday March 23rd. Neil Jordan’s 'The Good Thief' kicked off the festival on 3/20. Brian Burns was there on Friday March 21st for his film 'You Stupid Man'. Brian was asked by festival director Terence Mulligan if “Stupid Man was semi-autobiographical”? Burns jokingly replied “Unfortunately”! Malachy McCourt was in attendance on Saturday night for the sold out World Premier of 'Beautiful Kid'. Milo O’Shea was looking dapper on Closing Night for the world premier of his film 'Mystics'. O’Shea was asked about his experience on the film 'Barbarella' and he jokingly replied, “I really liked the costumes especially Jane’s” (Fonda). Others in attendance over the weekend were actors Jared Harris and Mike McGlone.
The Kodak/Orbit Digital Audience Award went to the insightful documentary 'Living the Revolution' (featuring Gerry Adams) for Wildfire Films. Director Adrian McCarthy accepted the award and said he
was “Gobsmacked”. The Best Short went to 'Unbearable', directed by Ed Godsell. The 2002 Script Winner went to 'The Water Is Wide' written by Jamie Dawson.
Terence Mulligan, the festival director and founder went one step further “This was a surreal year for us amidst war, an anti-war protest marching past our theater and heavy rain and people still came out to see the films year in record numbers. It was Fellini-esque”.
The festival set new attendance records and screened 2 World Premiers and 6 U.S Premiers. Film Fleadh is a launching pad for the best of New Irish Cinema and films directed by Irish or Irish-Americans. For more info check their site www.filmfleadh.com
