‘An Stuif Ceart’, a new 10 part Irish music series will begin broadcasting on BBC2 on Tuesday the 17th of January. Produced by ikandi Productions, the show promises an eclectic mix of talent with such luminaries as John Prine, Chad Dughi and Henry McCullough alongside the cream of Irish talent.

Shot in Northern Ireland over five days, the series was developed by prodcuer Siún Ní Raghallaigh in collaboration with musician Philip King. “Knowing the wealth of talent available to us we felt that it was time to push the boat out a bit and go for a musical mix that draws from the diverse styles that you can hear at live sessions around Northern Ireland,” says Ní Raghallaigh. “I was also very lucky to have Maurice Linnane direct the series for me. Maurice had just completed the Horslips film Dancehall Sweethearts and so this was the perfect gig for him to do next!“
‘An Stuif Ceart’ is presented by trad musician Dónal O Connor. Performances include local Northern Ireland bands Bréag and Tinpot Operation; traditional musicians Máirtín O’Connnor & Cathal Hayden, Steve Cooney & Laoise Kelly, Méabh O’Hare & Conor Byrne and Donall Donnelly; the West Ocean String Quartet; jazz band Lewis Smith and singer/songwriters such as Juliet Turner, Paul Casey, Claire Sproule and Paul Harden.
The series begins on the 17th of January on BBC2 at 8pm. Commissioned by Kieran Hegarty at BBC Northern Ireland and produced by Belfast and Galway based independent producer, ikandi productions, with the assistance of the Irish Language Broadcast Fund.
