Screen Training Ireland and Loopline Film have announced a residential Creative Documentary Course where acclaimed documentary filmmakers from around the world will give master classes on their work and offer mentoring sessions with participants.
The course will run on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of October and the 1st 2nd and 3rd of December at a venue to be decided. The course is aimed at documentary filmmakers who have made at least one film that displayed originality of approach and who wish to develop their conceptual skills.
Previous participants on the documentary course have gone on to produce much-admired work; Barrie Dowdall with ‘Ned Kelly’, Brendan Culleton with ‘Strongbow’, Irina Maldea with ‘Tintown’, Pat Collins with ‘Tory Island’ (Best Documentary IFTA Awards), Adrian McCarthy ‘Living The Revolution’ (Best Documentary New York Film Fleadh) and Neasa Ní Chianáin with ‘Frank, Ned and Busy Lizzie’ which won Best Documentary at the Celtic Film Festival.
Organisers are currently in negotiations with leading filmmakers to tutor the 2005 course including Sean McCallister ‘The Liberace Of Baghdad,’ winner best film Sundance Film Festival, Stephen Kijak ‘Cinemania’ best film at Hamptons NY film Festival and Andrew Jarecki ‘Capturing The Friedmans’. A full list of tutors will be confirmed over the coming weeks.
Filmmakers who have given master classes on the course to date include DA Pennebaker (DON’T LOOK BACK), Les Blank (BURDEN OF DREAMS), Chris Hegedus (STARTUP.COM), Kim Longinotto (DIVORCE: IRANIAN STYLE), John T. Davis (HOBO), Shari Robertson and Michael Camerini (WELL FOUNDED FEAR), Pawel Lozinski (THE WAY IT IS), Victor Kossakovsky (TISCHE), Molly Dineen (IN THE COMPANY OF MEN) Jon Bang Carlsen (HOW TO INVENT REALITY) Peter Wintonick (MANUFACTURING CONSENT) Paul Watson (WEDDING IN THE FAMILY), Leo Regan (DON’T GET HIGH ON YOUR OWN SUPPPLY) and Peter Bates (WHITE KING - RED RUBBER - BLACK DEATH).
The course is designed by the producer Martina Durac (Patrick Kavanagh – No Man’s Fool) and the director Sé Merry Doyle (Patrick Scott – Golden Boy).
