Friday night (24th) saw the annual ICAD Awards for design and advertising. The Institute of Creative Advertising and Design handed out a total of 69 awards (or Bells) on the evening for design and advertising work carried out over the past 12 months in the areas of radio, tv, cinema, print, outdoor, ambient, interactive, corporate and environment.
Post production house Windmill Lane were involved in some of the impressive winning tv/cinema commercials, particularly the Army’s ‘A Life Less Ordinary’ for agency Cawley Nea, and Aer Lingus’ ‘Manwatcher’ for Irish International. Work on these included telecine, editing, graphics and sound design in at their Number 4 Studios.
Other winners were Bernardos' 'Stress' 'Poverty' and 'Alcohol' advertisements, (Cawley Nea), which were edited at Screen Scene by commercials editor Juniper Caulder. AIB's 'Jane's/Brian's Lives' (McConnells) won a Bronze (graphics by Ian Jacobs at Screen Scene).
Pluto, the graphics and 3D design house, were involved with 98FM’s "Duck", as well as Spar, Den Idents, and Hyundai commercials.
The award for best direction was won by Rocket Productions’ commercial for Carolans Irish Cream, for Young Advertising. It was directed by Des Mullan, and posted at Screen Scene.
