Hundreds of film fans and filmmakers attended Metges Lane's Diamond Cinema for screenings of 29 Irish and Internationally made short, animated and feature film. One of the highlights of the event being the European premiere American feature ‘Strike The Tent’ that picked up the Best Foreign Film Award at the prize giving ceremony. Writer and lead actor of the epic American Civil War film, Julian Adams, was present and was hugely impressed with the work by local film directors, producers and actors.
At a packed awards ceremony in The Palace Bar-Club last Wednesday night, Best Short Film Animation went to Monster Animation’s ‘Dublin One’ which featuring the voice of Navan man Fred Reilly. Monaghan-made Irish feature, ‘No White Knight’, from director Kevin Marron picked up the prize for Best Feature Film, and ‘Testing Times, Teddy Boy’ was voted no.1 in the Audience Feedback class.
The driving force behind the festival, filmmaker Paul Cotrulia, was overwhelmed by the interest in the festival and hopes to expand into other venues next year.
Paul and a panel of judges, including Camera Operator Brian Matthews, had to reduce over 100 submissions to a shortlist of just 29 screenings for the three-day festival.
Organisers Future Films would like to thank The Palace Bar-Club, Diamond Cinema, Excel Print, the Newgrange Hotel, Clarke's Sports Den, Vivaldi's and all who attended and supported the event.
