Submissions are being sought for Silent Light - The Cork Super8 Fringe festival which is a one day celebration of the Super8 format, taking place on the 15th of October 2005 as a fringe event to the Official Cork Film Festival.
The screenings will take place in the Princes Street Church (next to English Market), Cork City. The highlight of the festival will be the Irish premiere of ‘The Man Who Met Himself’ a short film by British director Ben Crowe, which was screened at the
Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. It is the first ever short film shot entirely on Super8 to be screened at Cannes.
The day will begin with a number of free afternoon sessions where invited artists and filmmakers will exhibit their work, including vintage cartoons for kids as well as some stalls of Super8 equipment and film-related books.
In addition, festival organisers are planning an Open-Projector session where members of the public are invited to bring along and show any old Super8 footage they may have.
The day will finish with a competition screening where a shortlist of submissions received will be shown. A panel of invited guests will adjudicate and award prizes on the night.
Films submitted must be on Super8 film and under 8 minutes long
