Australian Film Festival At The IFI
07 Apr 2005 :

The IFI will re-launch the Australian Film Festival this month running from the 20th – 28th of April. Producer Jane Scott (My Brilliant Career, Crocodile Dundee, Strictly Ballroom, Shine) will be a VIP guest at the 2005 festival.

It’s been more than five year’s since the last Australian Film Festival in Dublin, its return is partly due to an initiative on the part of the Barbican in London, whereby a representative number of titles from their annual event have been made available for tour. These titles form the core of our event, with several titles added by the IFI for the Dublin festival.

A broad range of films is on offer to audiences over the 8 days of the festival, from the Paul Hogan comedy ‘Strange Bedfellow’s to a major new film from Paul Cox (Human Touch) and the extraordinary documentary ‘The Ister’. Also featuring is the intriguing ‘Alone Across Australia’, a documentation of an epic journey across Australia by adventurer Jon Muir who lives solely off the land during this 1,600 mile, 128 day trek. A small tribute to visionary film-maker Rolf de Heer is included in the festival.

These are just some of the 13 titles screening as part of the festival, full details on all films in the festival, along with booking details, can be viewed on the IFI website, www.irishfilm.ie.

The IFI would like to thank the Australian Embassy in Dublin for their support, along with Foster’s Lager, who they welcome on board as key sponsors of the event. Other sponsors include Austrade, Harvey Norman, Griffith College Dublin, The Four Season’s Hotel, and The Woolshed. The IFI would particularly like to thank Trish Crerar, whose assistance has been crucial in putting the festival together.
