Irish documentary ‘Off The Beaten Track’ has been officially selected to screen at the Sao Paulo International Film Festival in Brazil this October.
The feature documentary explores the changing world of Romanian shepherds, by charting the routines of a teenage shepherd over the course of a year, whose livelihood is at risk due to modern values.
Dieter Auner directed the documentary with Siún Ní Raghallaigh and Cristian Mungiu producing for Ikandi Productions and Mobra Films. Nora Agapi was the DoP, and Eugene McCrystal, Cillian Duffy and Wolfgang Auer worked on post-production.
The Brazilian festival, now in its 36th year, will take place from October 19 to November 1. It previously screened Irish co-production ‘The Other Side of Sleep’, which was directed by Rebecca Daly and produced by Fastnet Films.
‘Off The Beaten Track’ previously received the Prize from the Council of Bosco Chiesanuova at the XVII Film Festival della Lessinia in Italy, and was nominated for an IFTA Award in the Feature Documentary category this year. It previously screened at the Edinburgh, Rotterdam, Transylvania and Belfast Film Festivals.
Director Dieter Auner was recently offered funding for his next documentary ‘Circus on the Road’, which is also backed by Ní Raghallaigh’s Ikandi Productions. Ní Raghallaigh was recently appointed chief executive of Ardmore Studios.
‘Off The Beaten Track’ received funding from the Irish Film Board and Mobra Films. The Sao Paulo International Film Festival takes place from October 19 to November 1.
