Acclaimed Irish Directors & Writers To Appear At John Ford Ireland Film Symposium Panel Discussions
06 Jun 2012 :
The Directors Panel will feature (l-r) Jim Sheridan, John Boorman, Thaddeus O’Sullivan and Brian Kirk
Oscar nominee Jim Sheridan, ‘Game of Thrones’ director Brian Kirk and celebrated Irish author Pat McCabe are among a number of Ireland’s most critically acclaimed filmmakers, writers and academicians set to take part in panel discussions as part of this week’s John Ford Ireland Film Symposium, which gets underway tomorrow (June 7).

The recently announced Directors Panel and Writers Panel are shaping up to be a symposium highlight with Northern Irish writer Colin Bateman (Divorcing Jack) also set to attend.

The Directors Panel will see four of Ireland’s leading filmmakers discuss the prowess of John Ford’s work, and the influence the legendary Irish-American’s work has had on modern day filmmakers.

Sheridan (My Left Foot) and Kirk will be joined by John Boorman, the British Oscar-nominated filmmaker of ‘Deliverance’ and ‘Hope and Glory’, who is a long time resident of Ireland, and IFTA Award-winning Thaddeus O’Sullivan, writer director of hit feature film ‘Stella Days’.

The panel will select key scenes from Ford’s back catalogue to discuss themes, style, and compare it with their own body of work, giving audiences an insight to these top filmmakers’ challenging jobs.

The Directors Panel will take place at the IFI this Friday (June 8) at 2pm. Tickets cost €10, with concession rates available for IFTA and BAFTA members, as well as students and OAP’s. Tickets for the Directors Panel Book can be booked here .

The Writers Panel will take place this Saturday (June 9) at the IFI at 2pm. This panel will see Pat McCabe and Colin Bateman joined by writer, director and columnist Eoghan Harris, as well as multi award-winning director Ian Power, whose debut feature ‘The Runway’ just secured US distribution with Tribeca Enterprises.

This panel will see each writer discuss the influence Ford has had on their own writing, as well as screen scenes from some of Ford’s most prominent work. RTÉ Radio One’s Seán Rocks will facilitate the panel.

The John Ford Ireland Film Symposium will take place in various venues around Dublin from June 7-10.

A number of high profile industry professionals are confirmed to take part, including writer, director and ‘Sopranos’ actor Peter Bogdanovich, who will hold a public interview on Friday (June 8), and Oscar-winning editing supremo Joel Cox (Gran Torino, Unforgiven), who will hold an editing exclusive masterclass on Saturday (June 9).
