Steve Kaplan Hosting Comedy Script Workshop | The Irish Film & Television Network

The course will be hosted by the Galway Film Centre and aims to analyse the nuts and bolts of comedy and will comprise of both lectures and practical sessions on how to apply taught skills to practical comedic writing.

US based script consultant, Steve Kaplan, will be acting as a tutor for the workshop. Steve’s former students have been nominated for a total of 43 Emmy Awards, three Golden Globes, five SAG Awards and one Academy Award. Kaplan created several writing programmes such as the HBO Workspace, the HBO New Writers Programme and co-founded the Punch Line Theatre, where he worked on script development with Peter Tolan (Analyse This); writer/producer, David Crane (Friends, Joey, The Class); Michael Patrick King (Sex and the City, Will and Grace) and writer/producer Tracey Poust (Ugly Betty, Will and Grace).

The deadline for participation applications for Steve’s course is June 8th and all applicants should apply online at www.screentrainingireland.ie by submitting their CV. The cost of the course is €150 with an unwaged rate also available.

The Galway Film Centre, a non-profit organisation, which looks to encourage the development of film in the West of Ireland, will furthermore host three one-to-one consultations with Steve Kaplan. The consultations will be free of charge for the chosen participants. To apply for a chance to take part writers are asked to send a one page treatment for a feature length comedy, including a logline and a one paragraph synopsis of the feature to criona.sexton@fas.ie.
