Richard Dormer, Steve Coogan & Robert Sheehan Join 'Good Vibrations'
16 May 2011 :
Richard Dormer to play Teri Hooley
Belfast actor Richard Dormer is set to take on the lead role in Canderblinks Film & Music and Revolution Films co-production, ‘Good Vibrations’. The ‘Five Minutes of Heaven’ actor will play Belfast music producer, Teri Hooley. Other actors officially attached to the project are Michael Fassbender (Jane Eyre); Steve Coogan (Tropic Thunder); Robert Sheehan (Killing Bono); Bronagh Gallagher (Pulp Fiction) and Liam Cunningham (Hunger). The film will shoot in Belfast this August.

Written by Glenn Patterson and Colin Carberry, ‘Good Vibrations’ will focus on the work of Teri Hooley (Dormer) who founded the Good Vibrations record store during the time of The Troubles. Spotting talent in young musicians he went on to create a record label and represented bands such as The Undertones, Rudi and The Outcasts.

The feature is to be directed by ‘Cherrybomb’s Glenn Leyburn and Lisa Barros D’Sa with Revolution Films’ Andrew Eaton (A Mighty Heart) and Chris Martin set to produce. The film is the first feature for Calderblinks, a new production company founded by Glenn Leyburn and Lisa Barros D’Sa alongside composer David Holmes (Ocean's Eleven) who will score ‘Good Vibrations’.

Filming is due to start in Belfast this August and the Works International has come on board as world sales agent for the feature which is a Canderblinks Film & Music and Revolution Films co-production with BBC Films, the Irish Film Board and Northern Ireland Screen.

Producer, Chris Martin commented on the upcoming shoot, saying:"We are absolutely delighted to see this project come to fruition. To be able to tell the story of Belfast's godfather of punk, Terri Hooley, and to carry forward the resilience and spirit that was shown throughout the 70's and 80's Good Vibrations era. This ethos and spirit has been a major driving force in what we have done and will do as a production.”

Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody, Jonny Quinn and Nathan Connelly are associate producers with the project, becoming involved as fans of Terri Hooley: “Myself and Jonny Quinn have known and loved Terri for many years,” Gary Lightbody recently announced. ”His life has been a rampage of bad behaviour, bizarre events, astonishing acts of kindness and most of all great, great music. He has given selflessly to Northern Irish music his whole life in a highly unconventional way - drug busts, punch-ups, boozing, tall tales and punk rock - he's lived a movie already really. It's our job to help bring it to life for the rest of the world.”
