FÁS Screen Training Ireland and the Irish Film Board have joined to offer one writer and one director from Ireland to participate in the upcoming edition of the British filmmaking mentor programme, Guiding Lights. The deadline for applications is Wednesday, May 4th.
This is the first year where Irish filmmakers will be invited to join ten UK-based participants in the Guiding Lights programme which is due to launch in June. Successful applicants will be matched with a well-established film industry professional who will provide advice and guidance over a 9-month period.
Alongside one-to-one mentoring, a number of industry training and networking events will take place across the year, at events including the Galway Film Fleadh and the London Film Festival. Further access to high-level industry professionals will be facilitated for the particpants by an online networking facility.
FÁS Screen Training Ireland and the IFB are currently accepting applications from writers and directors to take part in the fourth round of the annual scheme whose previous mentors have included Danny Boyle (director, Slumdog Millionaire); Sam Mendes (director, Revolutionary Road); Barbara Broccoli (producer, Casino Royale); Paul Greengrass (director, The Bourne Ultimatum); Kenneth Branagh (director, Thor); Stephen Frears (director, High Fidelity) and Nick Hornby (writer, About a Boy).
The Guiding Lights programme is supported by the Skillset Film Skills Fund and by the National Lottery through the BFI and the film industry through the Skills Investment Fund. FÁS Screen Training Ireland and the IFB will accept applications for their two placements spots until 5pm on Wednesday, May 4th.
