The results of the latest round of RTÉ's Storyland competition were announced on April 6th as Kilkenny based comedy ‘Rent a Friend’ (pictured) and Dublin based comedy ‘The Last Security Man’. The projects will now join fellow shortlisted projects, ‘The Outlaw Concy Ryan’ and ‘Lucky Run’ in the bid to winning the 2011 Storyland competition. Voting for the next round of the competition launches on Wednesday, April 27th.
The most recent voting results, announced on April 6th saw Lee Cronin’s ‘Masterplan’ eliminated meaning that four semi-finalists now remain in the competition. The projects still competing include Dave Minogue and Der Tobin's ‘Rent a Friend’, a comedy drama set in Kilkenny where Dave and Der – two guys who are out of college and out of work decide to sell the only asset they have - their friendship; Colm Cafferkey’s ‘Lucky Run’, a drama set in a small town in the West of Ireland where lead character Robbie has 48 hours to repay a finger-chopping gangster €5000 and prevent his train-wreck of a life from steamrolling into the fireworks factory
The two other shortlisted projects are ‘The Last Security Man’ from Liam Hourican, David Stone and David Crann, a comedy about Dirk, a Belgian security guard and self styled action hero, who stands for security and civilisation while working in a Dublin shopping centre and his rookie side-kick Tom and Ivan McMahon’s ‘The Outlaw Concy Ryan’, a mockumentary that follows proud Moyhill native Concy Ryan as he struggles to preserve his way of life in the face of a new government initiative to regenerate the area.
Voting on the next round of the Storyland competition kicks off on the 27 April 2011.
Now in its third year Storyland is an online drama competition which looks to offers new talent an alternative opportunity to develop a drama series online. The overall competition winner will be announced on Wednesday, June 1st.
