Magamedia are currently in production with the third series of drama-documentary series, ‘Éalú’. The new installment is at the end of its shoot and production is to wrap on Sunday, March 27th. Directed by Paddy Hayes (Corp + Anam), this series will examine the Irish republican prisoners who escaped from Irish jails.
The 6 x 25 min series started shooting in December 2010 and is produced by Ciara NicChormaic. This series will look at the escapes made by Irish republicans between 1920 and 1970, one of whom is George Blake. Director Paddy Hayes describes George’s fascinating story for IFTN, saying: ”George Blake was a Russian spy who was handed the longest prison sentence ever passed by a British court in the sixties. He was to be locked up for 42 years and constantly thought of escape. And he managed to escape by riding in a caravan with a false back the whole way across Europe.”
The series’ director of photography is Colm Hogan (Bóthar go dtí an White House) who shot interviews and drama reconstructions on HD cam on site in Cork and in Armagh prison. The series will be edited in-house in Galway’s Magamedia by Conall de Cléir (Na cloigne) from next week onwards. The 6 part series is a Magamedia production funded by TG4. The TX date for the third ‘Éalú’ series is TBC.
Magamedia are currently in development with ‘In Am an Ghátair’ (In a Time of Crisis), a 2 x 40 minute historical documentary for TG4 which received €160,000 in the latest round of BAI’s Sound and Vision fund.
