RTÉ to Cut Up to 60 Staff

RTE Tweet It has been announced that RTÉ is to reduce its workforce by between 50 and 60 people as a result of the broadcaster’s adverse financial situation. RTÉ management told its unions on Friday, March 11th that a voluntary redundancy and early retirement scheme is being prepared which will be discussed at a further meeting on March 23rd. In a statement released by the broadcaster, the scope of the situation was explained: ”It is envisaged by management that between 50 and 60 posts will be covered by the two programmes,”it noted, referring to voluntary redundancy or early retirement options that the group proposed at the meeting this morning between RTÉ management and Representatives of the RTÉ Trade Union Group. Where wage agreements are concerned, the broadcaster confirmed that it is seeking to freeze current salary levels for the next twelve months, after which time the situation will be reviewed: ”In the context of pay, the company confirmed that it is seeking a continuation of the current pay reduction, alongside a suspension of increments for a 12-month period,” the statement notes. ”At the end of the 12-month period there would be a review and independent verification.” The document concludes on the subject of pay increases, saying ”The Management and the TUG have agreed to refer the non-payment of s as a matter of dispute to the conciliation process of the IRT (Industrial Relations Tribunal).” Free Industry Newsletter Subscribe to IFTN's industry newsletter - it's free and e-mailed directly to your inbox every week.
