March 21st will see the return of Pulse College’s Screen and creative writing Course, ‘Write Here, Write Now’. The week-long course looks to give a practical insight and helpful advice as to screenplay writing and will be moderated by filmmaker Farah Abushwesha (Chicken Soup, The Scouting Book for Boys).
The week long writing course will aim to provide students with a supportive environment that allows their natural writing talent to shine through. ‘Write Here, Write Now’ is a five day intensive course which has an interactive and proactive approach rather than focusing on theory. Participants’ own ideas and skills as a writer will be encouraged in a fun environment as part of the course.
Farah Abushwesha is a writer, producer, production manager and founding member of the BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing Forums. Her production work includes ‘Late Bloomers’ with William Hurt and Isabella Rossellini; ‘Micro Men’; ‘The Scouting Book for Boys’, a winner at the London Film Festival, and ‘She, a Chinese’.
Moderated by Farah, the course will also feature guest speakers. Previous participants in this capacity have included actor, Bosco Hogan (King Arthur, In the Name of the Father); IFTA winning writer, Niall Heery (Small Engine Repairs), IFTA winning producer, John Wallace (Rewind, Garage); award-winning short film-makers David Freyne (Passing) and Alan Brennan (Earthbound) and documentary and pop promo maker Vittoria Colonna.
Farah Abushwesha has spoken about returning to help the students of the course, saying: “I’ve designed a hands-on course that gets you to write and to think in a creative and filmic way. It’s fun and far from highbrow. There is no mystery involved. On a personal note, I’m very excited to be back teaching this course again – I get a real buzz from seeing people becoming inspired and fired up about storytelling.”
