Irish Producers Selected for Rotterdam Lab
24 Jan 2011 :
'Pentecost'
Irish producers, Avalon Film’s Deirdre Barry and EMU Productions’ Eimear O’Kane are two of 57 producers chosen to take part in the 11th edition of the Rotterdam Lab during the upcoming International Film Festival there.

Deirdre Barry recently produced the Irish feature, ‘Between the Canals’ which recently screened at the Capital Irish Film Festival in Washington DC. Written and directed by Mark O'Connor it follows three small time criminals from Dublin's North Inner City as they each aspire to be somebody in a fast changing society.

Eimear O'Kane recently produced the IFTA nominated short film, ‘Pentecost’. Written and directed by Peter McDonald, the short centres around an altar boy who is faced with an important decision – serve correctly at an important mass or risk being banned from football. ‘Pentecost’ nabbed the Best Irish Short Film title at last year’s Corona Cork Film Festival.

Deirdre and Eimear will join 55 other selected emerging producers from around the globe to take part in the Lab which is organised by CineMart. The event will run as part of the International Film Festival Rotterdam which takes place between the 26th of January and the 6th of February. Those taking part in the Rotterdam Lab have all been nominated by 22 Rotterdam Lab partner organisations.

The Rotterdam lab will see the 57 producers participating in coaching sessions and pitching projects which will be hosted by Ido Abram of EYE and representatives from Binger Filmlab. Special themes at this year’s event will include areas such as development and the role of the creative producer, digital distribution and VOD, managing post-production and transmedia. Each participants will also have personal meetings with IFFR industry delegates.

In further good news for the Irish film industry, the IFTA nominated Irish features, ‘Parked’, 'Sensation' and ‘Circus Fantasticus’ and Irish produced documentary, ‘Off the Beaten Track’ have all been officially selected to screen at the festival.

The 11th Rotterdam Lab will take place during the International Film Festival Rotterdam from 26th January - 6th February.
