The MEDIA Awards for 2010 resulted in almost €1.3 million being awarded to Irish Audiovisual Companies, it has been reported. The EU support programme gave funding through several schemes such as TV Broadcasting support, Development Single, Slate and Interactive, Cinema Distribution and Training. The 2011 funding deadlines have also been announced.
MEDIA last year awarded €448,000 to Jam Media and Monster Distributes through its TV Broadcasting support scheme and €310,000 to Fantastic Films, Soilsiu Teoranta, Magma, Martini Media and New Decade TV through its Development Single, Slate and Interactive scheme. The group also financed Eclipse Pictures, Light House Cinema, and Access Cinema with €15,000 through a Cinema Distribution scheme and €353,337 of Training funding went to FÁS Screen Training Ireland for Screen Leaders and 3D Cinema in Europe.
The funding body’s i2i Audiovisual allowance of €104,978 was awarded to Ripple World Pictures, Boyle Film Productions and Fastnet Films. Finally €80,000 of funding was allocated to the Galway Film Fair and Cork Film Festival through the group’s
Festival Scheme & Promotion/ Access to Markets fund.
MEDIA also announced details of its upcoming funding deadlines: those looking to apply for i2i Audiovisual (Support for Film Financing Costs) need to apply by January 10th 2011. The deadline for Eurimages (Support for Co-Production) applications is January 14th 2011 whilst submissions for Support for Television Broadcasting of Audiovisual Works will be accepted until February 28th 2011. Finally, April 1st is the deadline for Cinema Distribution – The Selective Scheme applications and Support for Development submissions must be completed by April 11th.

MEDIA co-finances training initiatives for audiovisual industry professionals, the development of production projects (feature films, television drama, documentaries, animation and new media), as well as the promotion of European audiovisual works and development of new technologies.
