Liam Neeson is to the recipient of this year’s British Independent Film Awards’ Variety Award. The Irish actor will receive the award on December 5th in London’s Old Billingsgate where the 13th BIFA ceremony will take place. Liam joins a prestigious list of previous award recipients.
The Variety Award recognises an actor, director, writer or producer who has helped to put the international spotlight on the U.K. Past recipients include Michael Caine last year, Helen Mirren, Richard Curtis, Michael Sheen and Keira Knightley.
Born in Northern Ireland, Oscar nominated Liam has been making feature films for nearly thirty years; his notable credits include ‘Husbands and Wives’, ‘Rob Roy’, ‘Michael Collins’ and ‘Schindler’s List’ for which he received Best Actor nominations for the Academy Awards, Golden Globes and the BAFTA’s. He claimed an IFTA for his 2004 role in ‘Kinsey’ and has starred in dozens of other recent box office hits such as ‘Batman Begins’, ‘Taken’, ‘Love Actually’, ‘Gangs of New York’, ‘Clash of the Titans’ and ‘The A-Team’.
Providing this year’s Award trophies is Swarovski, who will produce special crystal awards for 2010 designed by Tokujin Yoshioka for Swarovski Crystal Palace.
