Evan McAuliffe Measures 'The Football Effect' | The Irish Film & Television Network

The idea for the project came to Evan when he was working in South Africa six months ago: “The world cup was coming up,” he tells us. “And I decided I’d like to have a look at the effect it would have on different parts of society in South Africa both during the world cup and then afterwards.” Thus he approached South African production company, Prinz Productions and the Irish/South African project went into production. Evan shot the documentary during the World Cup and then returned to film follow up pieces a month later.

Evan had been working in the building development and marketing sector prior to the production and came to the project with no documentary experience. Taking on the roles of presenter, director, cinematographer and producer, he plunged himself into the proverbial deep end. The feature had a privately funded budget of €35,000, Evan explains that ”It’s a very low budget, I didn’t actually think we’d get it down for that much. But the doc doesn’t look like it was done for just €35,000.”

Evan this week returned from the editing suites in Prinz Productions where ‘The Football Effect’ post-production was carried out by John Warner. John and his team are currently putting the finishing touches to the feature documentary after which the doc will be submitted to various international film festivals. John is also currently in talks with Irish broadcasters with regards to the possible transmission of the film.
