'His & Hers' Hits €300,000 at Irish Box Office | The Irish Film & Television Network

Ken Wardrop’s ‘His & Hers’, which was released in Irish cinemas on June 18th, has now reached a gross box-office of over €300,000 making it the highest grossing documentary released in Ireland since Michael Moore’s ‘Farrenheit 911’. This is a fantastic result for the Irish documentary, which was made on a micro budget of just €100,000. Opening on week one on just €40,000, the power of word of mouth means the film has now grossed 7.5 times this amount.

Speaking on the success of the film, Head of Distribution at Element Pictures Audrey Sheils commented that: “We knew that if we could just get people into see this film, then the emotion, tears and laughter that this film generates would spread across the country. Opening on just 8 prints we hoped for success but nothing could have prepared us for what it has achieved. We never thought we’d still be in cinemas 12 weeks after release and are delighted to have been part of the journey with Ken Wardrop [director] and Andrew Freedman [producer].”

The team in Dublin’s Light House Cinema in Smithfield have also voiced their delight at the success of the film as it has now become the most successful film they have ever screened there.

‘His & Hers’ is a cinematic mosaic that tells a 90-year-old love story through the collective voice of 70 ladies different stages in their lives. The recent box office success comes on the back of an IFTA win in February in the category of Feature Documentary. Other awards the film has scooped include the Audience award in the Dublin International Film Festival, the Feature Award in the Galway Film Fleadh and the Cinematography Award at the Sundance Film Festival 2010.
