'Pyjama Girls' Returns to IFI, Still Films in Spotlight | The Irish Film & Television Network

‘Pyjama Girls’, Maya Derrington’s new feature documentary will return to the IFI for an exclusive release today, August 20th. The project looks to capture the ups and downs of working class teenage life behind the enigmatic and subversive statement of wearing pyjamas in public. Still Films’ recent work will be further marked with the world premiere of Paul Rowley’s experimental feature, ‘The Rooms’ and his documentary ‘Seaview’. Finally Tuesday, August 24th will see a ‘Still Films in Conversation’ event take place where all three projects will be discussed.

‘Pyjama Girls’ proved a hit at the IFI Stranger Than Fiction Festival where it premiered this April, selling out three times over with its uncompromising look at the lives of some of Dublin’s most vulnerable young people.

Filmed at the Basin Street Flats in Dublin City, ‘Pyjama Girls’ focuses principally on teenagers, tracking the intense micro-dramas of teenage life in the close-knit community. The project is a collaboration between Still Films and the Irish Film Board. With Denise Woods, Paddy Jordan and Maya Derrington lending their skills over the course of the shoot as D.O.P’s, Nicky Gogan is producer. ‘Pyjama Girls’ will show in the IFI from 20 – 26 August.

Experimental feature ‘The Rooms’ is directed by Paul Rowley and Tim Blue, produced by Nicky Gogan. Looking back at the remnants of the 20th century through the eyes of the 21st, the project will receive its world premiere on Sunday, August 22nd in the IFI. Finally, the acclaimed documentary ‘Seaview’, which looks at the asylum holding centre in the former Mosney holiday camp, will show in the IFI on Saturday, August 21st.

The workshop on Tuesday, August 24th will see the three founders of Still Films discussing their collaborative practice and will feature a screening of a selection of the group’s shorter films.
