GFD Film Library has announced that it has secured the exclusive distribution of Cartoon Saloon's Oscar nominted feature, ‘The Secret of Kells’ for Non-Theatrical Screenings on DVD in Ireland.
These distribution rights mean that the group will oversee and allow for screenings of the film outside of showings in cinemas and homes. As a result of the move GFD will be in charge of the screenings the film receives in schools, universities, clubs, buses, play groups, pubs and outdoor shows etc. Anyone hoping to show the film in the above mentioned locations should contact the group for more information.
The story for Cartoon Saloon’s ‘Secret of Kells’ takes place in the fortified Kells Abbey in remote 9th century Ireland which is threatened by the Vikings. It tells the tale of twelve-year-old Brendan as he explores the art of illuminating the darkness and discovers the means of protection against the raids of the barbarians. The feature, directed by Tomm Moore (The Three Wise Men) and produced by Paul Young (Skunk Fu), this year enjoyed an Oscar nomination as an animated feature and has previously won an IFTA, the Audience Award for Best Feature Film at the 33rd Annecy Animation Festival in France and the Edinburgh Film Festival’s Standard Life Audience Award. Furthermore Tomm Moore was named Director of the Year and Cartoon Saloon, along with Les Armateurs and Vivi Film, being named Producer of the Year at this year’s Cartoon Movie Tributes.
