Irish drama ‘Father & Son’ began broadcasting on Monday 7th June on ITV1 to an audience of 5.127 million viewers. A co-production between RTÉ and ITV, the IFTA winning drama from Left Bank Pictures and Octagon Films stars Dougray Scott (Hitman), Stephen Rea (Ondine) and Sophie Okenedo (Hotel Rwanda).
Monday’s ITV1 transmission of the first episode of ‘Father & Son’ pulled in a 21.6% audience share. The figure, compiled by Attentional, sees the drama do better than the timeslot benchmark of 20.8%. The drama further enjoyed a PVR of 9.06%.
‘Father & Son’ centres around former inmate Michael O’Connor, played by Dougray Scott who returns to Manchester from Ireland to save his teenage son from prison. The series premiered on RTÉ One on June 29th 2009 and is enjoying a 4 night run on IVT1 this week with the remaining 3 episodes being shown for the next three nights in a row.
The director of the project was Brian Kirk (My Boy Jack, Middletown), whilst producer was Michael Casey (My Boy Jack, Middletown), the script was written by Emmy award winning Irish writer Frank Deasy (Prime Suspect: The Final Act) and DOP was Ruairi O’Brien (Running Mate). These talents coupled with an all star cast including Dougray Scott (Mission Impossible II), Stephen Rea (The Crying Game), Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda), John Kavanagh (The Tudors) and Flora Montgomery (When Brendan Met Trudy) guarantees that audiences are in for a treat with this four part series.
The drama is produced by Left Bank Pictures and co-produced by Ingenious Broadcasting and Octagon Films, with the support of investment incentives for the Irish film industry provided by the Irish Government and the participation of Bord Scannan na hÉireann/Irish Film Board.
