Zanzibar Films Edwina Forkin has been selected to participate in The Producers Guild of America’s inaugural International Co-ProShow, taking place in connection with the second annual Produced By Conference in Los Angeles on June 4-6, 2010.
‘66 Degrees North’, the story of an afflicted sea captain with a grim secret who is offered a second chance at life, was one of only five winning entries, and will be a joint Irish/Icelandic co-production with Zanzibar’s Edwina Forkin and Reykavik-based Richard Scobie producing. Scobie co-wrote the script with Kristinn Thordarson and the project marks the feature directorial debut of prolific cinematographer Eagle Egilssson of ‘The Wire’, ‘Heroes’ & ‘CSI MIAMI’
The other winning countries represented are Australia, with two projects selected, China and Canada. All five projects were hand selected by a panel of acclaimed U.S. producers from hundreds of entries solicited from film commissions from all over the world. Winning producers were invited to travel to Los Angeles to attend the 2010 Produced By Conference weekend event.
Edwina voiced her delight at being selected for the event, telling IFTN: “I’m so excited. And what’s really unbelievable is that it’s the only European project in the competition. I can’t wait to head over!”
The goal of the CoProShow, which was developed by the PGA’s International Committee, is to provide international film producers with the opportunity to engage in an open dialogue with their American counterparts. Open to international producers (non-US residents) with a completed screenplay for a feature-length project currently under development, the CoProShow represents the first co-production showcase competition to be held in Hollywood.
Zanzibar Films is currently developing another co-production with Scobie entitled ‘Apples and Oranges’. But first up for the company is another foreign co-production with U.S. film company, Freyja Films, the romantic comedy, ‘Three Days In Dublin’, to be shot in Ireland in September 2010.
