BDA invests in Tyrell CCT Avid Technology
13 May 2010 :
Creative agency BDA has just announced that the company has invested in new Avid technology, supplied by creative technology provider Tyrell CCT, as part of the facility’s move to tapeless and HD production.

Based on a customised workflow devised by Tyrell CCT, the facility has acquired two Avid Media Composer Nitris DX systems and an Avid Unity ISIS shared storage solution. The upgrade project is driven by an increasing demand for high definition from the facility’s clients and it highlights BDA’s commitment to the latest advancements in tapeless workflows.

“It feels good to be investing again on the back of some successful contract wins; our creative team deserves the best technology,” commented Honor Barratt, BDA Group Managing Director. “Our clients can be assured that the creative excellence they have come to expect from us is fully supported by the best kit; tapeless, HD and 3D are pushing us into new areas, and we’re very excited about being absolutely able to deliver on all these as part of our growth process.”

In a move to notably enhance their productivity and streamline their operational areas, BDA has replaced their existing single linear edit suite with two Avid Media Composer Nitris DX systems. BDA will fully utilise the latest features of Media Composer software such as AMA and Mix & Match to accelerate their progression to tapeless workflows. The facility has also added a 64TB Avid Unity ISIS Storage Area Network (SAN) which provides increased storage capacity accommodating the increased amount of material generated by HD production. The Avid Unity ISIS delivers unparalleled scalability, performance and reliability ensuring that BDA can meet the demands of their worldwide 24/7 service.

An Anystream 2G Agility system from Grab Networks was also acquired to automate BDA’s encoding requirements and provide greater throughput and faster availability. Technical support for the systems is also provided by Tyrell CCT. BDA’s recent investment augments their existing line up of eight Media Composer systems, three Pro Tools suites and eight design workstations. BDA has planned further investment in media management and other tapeless technologies for the coming months.

“The investment in new Avid systems by BDA will greatly improve their workflow and productivity and strongly position them in the market for HD projects as more and more clients are selecting this production route”, commented Mark Lynn, Sales Director, Tyrell CCT UK. “Avid Unity ISIS offers a highly scalable and incredibly secure storage platform and gives BDA the edge in performance when working on multiple HD productions.”
