TG4 and An Chomhairle Ealaíon/The Arts Council are currently inviting submissions for the 6th season of television documentary scheme, Splanc! The scheme supports the creative exploration of the arts in Ireland via the funding of a chosen documentary or series.
This year sees the availability of a fund of €120,000 (successful documentary projects may apply for additional financial support from other funding agencies if desired) and the only specific guidelines given are that submitted ideas should be for single documentaries or series only. This year the project aims to support a number of documentaries on a range of art forms for a series of programmes that will provide an insight into the arts and into the making of art in Ireland today. Half hour duration is preferred but the fund will consider hour long films on an exceptional basis.
All art forms are eligible for consideration and proposals for visually engaging, programmes that take a fresh and compelling approach to their subject will be prioritised. Applicants should note that proposals which would be more suitable for Imeall, TG4's weekly arts review series, will not be considered for Splanc! A panel of readers from both funding partiers, who are TBC, will read all submissions and a shortlist will be drawn up and interviews will commence.
Previous projects that received funding as part of the Splanc! programme include Feenish Productions’ 52 minute documentary ‘Ábhar Macnamh - Coleman Doyle’,
Rince ar Phár’s 6 by 25 minute series ‘Major figures in Irish Literature discuss the nature of literature and the spark of Inspiration’ and ‘Múide Éire’, a 4 by 25 minute series which is currently in production with Odyssey Prod/Underground Films.
All submissions should include the Splanc! commissioning form (click here), detailed production budgets, detailed treatment to include samples of visual material, written material and narrative style and a list of confirmed key personnel and programme participants.
The deadline for receipt of submissions is 1pm Friday, 11 June 2010.This year’s chosen project will be produced for TG4, in association with Bord Scannán na hÉireann/The Irish Film Board & An Chomhairle Ealaíon / The Arts Council.
