Nods for Irish Talent at BAFTA Craft Awards | The Irish Film & Television Network

Writer and director Aisling Walsh has received a nomination for her role as director on ‘Wallander (The Fifth Woman)’. The series follows NI born Kenneth Branagh’s empathetic Police Inspector Wallander and is produced by BBC One, Left Bank Pictures and Yellowbird productions. Walsh is nominated in the category of Director Fiction alongside Yann Demange for ‘Criminal Justice’, James Hawes for ‘Endi’ and Philip Martin for Northern Irish drama, ‘Mo’.

Guy Hibbert has been nominated in the event’s Writer group. His script for the BBC Two/ Big Fish Film and Ruby Films co-produced drama ‘Five Minutes of Heaven’ will go up against Peter Bowker’s work for Northern Irish produced ‘Occupation’, Heidi Thomas’ script for ‘Cranford’ and the writing team behind ‘The Thick of It’. ‘Five Minutes of Heaven’ tells the story about two Ulstermen from opposite sides of sectarian conflict.

Northern Irish productions have been lauded by the awards also. Alongside the nomination mentioned above, the BBC NI drama ‘Mo’, about British labour politician Mo Mowlam, has received a nod in the Make Up and Hair Design for Chrissie Baker. Finally, Belfast shot wartime drama ‘Small Island’ from BBC One, Ruby Films and Television and AL Films has been nominated in the categories of Original Television Music for Martin Phipps and Photography & Lighting Fiction for Tony Miller.

The BAFTA Television Craft Awards will take place in London on 23 May íand will be hosted by Irish television presenter Christine Bleakley.
