Mind the Gap are currently in production with ‘Ireland – Dig It!’, a new five part series for RTÉ where teams of 9-13 year old students have the chance to take part in an archaeology adventure on TV.
The premise of the show is explained to IFTN by producer Anne Heffernan (Hands On): “Each team will be tested on their knowledge of local history and archaeology to win a place in the ‘Ireland – Dig It!’ final, where they’ll have the chance to win a very special school trip for their entire class.”
Mind the Gap Films is producing the programme with the support of the Heritage Council, the Local Authority Museums and The Hunt Museum, Limerick, and part of each episode will be filmed at a different museum around the country. Bernadine Carragher (Happy Birthday Oscar Wilde!) is also producing and a series director is TBC. The programme which looks to encourage an interest in Irish heritage and culture in young people will air on The Den in Autumn, 2010.
Any budding archaeologists who would like to take part in the series are invited to visit www.rte.ie/irelanddigit whereby they can help a Bronze Age Warrior retrieve the possessions that have mysteriously gone missing from his grave. When they find all the missing treasures, said Warrior will provide a ‘Dig It!’ Secret Code that’s needed to complete application form. Completed forms should be sent to Ireland – Dig It!, 6 Wilton Place, Dublin 2, no later than April 30th.
Mind the Gap films are currently also seeking a single camera operator with drama experience for ‘Ireland –Dig It!’. For more information about the position visit the IFTN jobs section.
