The full Irish line up for the Palm Springs International Shortfest was announced yesterday. With only 315 films being selected from more than 2,500 worldwide entries, Irish talent is represented with seven films chosen for screening, at this year’s festival.
The selected Irish shorts are:
• ‘Atlantic’ by Conor Ferguson
• ‘Whatever Turns You On’ by Declan Cassidy
• ‘Sunshower’ by Liam Gavin
• ‘The German’ by Nick Ryan
• ‘The Man Inside’ by Rory Bresnihan
• ‘Sandpiper’ by Jimmy T. Murakami
• ‘The Ranger’ by PJ Dillon
Now in its 15th year the selected short films are organised into 52 programs covering a variety of genres and themes.
With a jury of three industry professionals, this year’s competition will be judged under 18 different categories including; Best Animation, Best Documentary, Best Live Action, Best of Festival and the Future Filmmaker Award.
A total of $94,000 in money and production prizes, including $14,000 in cash awards will be given out. The Panavision Grand Jury Award winner will receive a digital or film camera package valued at $60,000 and five days studio time courtesy of DST Studios. First place winners in four categories will automatically become eligible for consideration by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for a possible nomination for the 2010 Academy Awards.
The festival is also to showcase Directorial Debuts famous International stars including; Demi Moore, Courteney Cox-Arquette, Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Joseph Gordon-Levitt; and Shorts Featuring Laura Dern, Olympia Dukakis, Danny Glover, and Rumer Willis.
