Give Me Direction, a conference focusing on the art and science of writing for the screen will take place on the 4th & 5th June in the Light House Cinema and The Chester Beatty Library.
The high profile guest list attending the conference includes Shane Black, an American actor, screenwriter and film director who at the age of 23 sold his first screenplay to the franchise ‘Lethal Weapon’ and in 2005 he made his directorial debut with ‘Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang’, which he also wrote; Brit filmmaker Shane Meadows whose credits include ‘Somers Town’, ‘This Is England’ and ‘Dead Man's Shoes’ and his collaborator Paul Fraser; and Israeli screenwriter and director Eran Kolirin whose directorial debut, the feature-length film ‘The Band's Visit’ premiered at the 60th Cannes Film Festival and has won over 40 international awards including Un Certain Regard - Jury Coup de Coeur and Award of the Youth at the Cannes Film Festival and European Discovery of the Year at the European Film Awards.
Irish playwright Conor McPherson will also join the conference. McPherson’s directorial debut ‘The Eclipse’ starting Ciaran Hinds and Aidan Quinn recently premiered to positive reviews at the Tribeca Film Festival with Hinds picking up the Best Actor Award at the festival.
Give Me Direction is organised by the IFB and the JDIFF. The conference will follow an informal, mixed format of sessions and interviews: plus a rehearsed read-through and a preview screening and runs from 16.30 - 21.00 on 4th June in The Light House Cinema & 9.30 - 18.00 on 5th June in the Chester Beatty Library.
