‘Father Ted’ co - creator Graham Linehan has picked up the BAFTA for his Channel 4 comedy ‘The IT Crowd’. The show won in the Best Situation Comedy category at the TV Awards ceremony held in London last night.
Linehan writes and directs the sitcom which stars Irish actor Chris O’Dowd (The Boat That Rocked) as an IT guy who works in a fictitious British corporation.
Nominated along with the show’s producers Richard Boden and Ash Atalla, Linehan fought off competition from other nominees including; ‘The Inbetweeners’ (C4/BWark Productions); ’Outnumbered’ (BBC One/Hat Trick Productions) and ’Peep Show’ (C4/Objective Productions). The BAFTA is one of the many awards that the comedy has received this year having also picked up an International Emmy and an IFTA.
Irish actress and writer Sharon Horgan was also nominated on the night in the Best Comedy Performance for her role in BBC Three’s comedy ‘Pulling’.
