The premise for the film happened several years ago when director Peter McCarthy was assaulted by a gang while walking home from a night out. In this unprovoked attack, he received severe lacerations to his face and almost lost the sight in his left eye. The film is the story of self-discovery and spiritual healing and explores the issues of fear and violence and how a man deals with the aftermath of a personal attack.
Other Irish titles to screen at the Beloit Festival include doc ‘Waveriders’, directed by Joel Conroy, which explores the story of Ireland’s connection to surfing; the short ‘88’ directed by Andrew S. Loveland and the animation ‘Revelation’ directed by Jane Lee and produced by Stephen O’Connell.
‘Fight or Flight’ has picked up numerous awards including the Best Documentary for Artistic Expression at the Temecula Film Festival in California; Best Documentary "Making a Difference Award" at Commffest Toronto; Best Documentary at Radar Hamburg International Film Festival and the Best Feature Films Showcase at the Moving Images Film Festival.
Nominations include MAMA Awards and the Best Foreign Documentary at the Long Island Film Festival while editor Shane Sutton is nominated in the Best Editing Category at the upcoming IFTA Awards.
