Canada’s Strategic Partners Spotlight Ireland

05 Feb 2009 :
The 29th Atlantic Film Festival and Canada’s co production outfit Strategic Partners will host a special spotlight on co producing with Ireland and Germany during the festival, which runs from 18 – 20 September 2009 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Canada's singular international co-production market, will feature movies from around the world and across Canada, including a special stream of films from the spotlight countries of Ireland and Germany. The event will host 200 top industry players at the festival and aims to bring international delegates together with Canada’s film and television players at it’s co-production market, focusing on all genres of film and television, including those at an early stage and those looking for the right partner.

As part of the festival which will feature movies from around the world and across Canada, there will be special stream of films from the spotlight countries of Ireland and Germany.

"Germany and Ireland were natural choices to spotlight for 2009," said Jan Miller, Director of Strategic Partners. "They are two markets that are continually investing in their own film industries and cultivating co-production on the world stage. In 2008, producers attending SP reported 66 film and television projects benefited significantly from attending Strategic Partners. We can't wait to see the results from this year's event with our spotlight delegations drawing delegates from around the world to do co-production business."

Current Irish co-productions with Canada to gain international attention include the award winning TV series ‘The Tudors’ (Showtime) and the Strategic Partners ‘04 feature film project ‘Love and Savagery’ (Canada's Morag Loves Company and Park Ex, and Subotica Entertainment). The recent announcement from the Irish government of the additional measures to strengthen the industry such as the competitive tax incentives are also an attraction for potential co productions.

The 12th annual Strategic Partners runs from September 18-20, 2009 as part of the 29th Atlantic Film Festival. For more information about Strategic Partners visit www.atlanticfilm.com/sp.
