The second Dingle Film Festival, which takes place from 11th – 14th September 2008, is set to present a new accolade at this year’s fest, the Gregory Peck Award for Excellence in the Art of Film.
This prestigious new award will be made in conjunction with Gregory Peck’s family, with Peck’s daughter Cecilia attending the festival to present the award. She will also give a public interview discussing her father’s roots in Dingle and his legendary career.
“My father’s grandmother came from Dingle and any time he visited there, he always had a sense of coming home,” said Cecilia. “So the whole family is thrilled that this award should be presented at the Dingle Film Festival and we are all looking forward to being there in September.”
“Gregory Peck was one of Hollywood’s all time greats and to have his name associated with the Dingle Film Festival is indeed a special honour,” said festival director Maurice Galway. “It is our intention to build this into an international award with only the very best in their field being considered.”
Cecelia Peck will introduce a special family screening of ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’, which saw Peck win an Oscar for the role of Atticus Finch. The festival will close with a screening of Cecilia Peck’s film ‘A Conversation with Gregory Peck’– an intimate portrait of the man talking about his career and life.
