01 May 2008 :
Cast of Raw
Three television dramas commissioned by RTÉ television are set to begin filming in the coming weeks - ‘Raw’ a new series for RTÉ Two, and the next instalments of popular TV series ‘The Clinic’ and ‘Single-Handed’.

New six-part drama series ‘Raw’, produced by Octagon Films and Ecosse Films, explores the true friendships, bitter rivalries and unexpected passion that emerges in the heat of the kitchen of an up-and-coming Dublin restaurant. ‘Raw’ features Irish actors Charlene McKenna (Pure Mule, Single-Handed) and Keith McErlean (Bachelors Walk, The Clinic), English actress Shelley Conn (Mistresses), and Australian actor Damon Gameau (Razzle Dazzle).

The series, to film in Ardmore Studios, is to be directed by IFTA-nominated directors Kieron J. Walsh (When Brendan Met Trudy, Watermelon) and David Caffrey (Monarch of the Glen, Divorcing Jack ) and has been created by up and coming writer Lisa McGee.

The sixth series of RTÉ’s popular medical drama ‘The Clinic’, produced by Parallel Films, begins lensing this week and will feature new cast members including Tanya Moodie (Prime Suspect 6), who joins the Clarence Street Clinic as Dr Grace, and Irish actor Aidan Turner (The Tudors, The Sound of People), who plays receptionist Ruairi McGowan. The series will air in the autumn.

The third instalment of RTÉ detective drama ‘Single-Handed’, produced by Touchpaper Films, begins filming in Connemara this June, with Owen McDonnell returning as Garda Sergeant Jack Driscoll who finds himself involved in an undercover operation after he tries to save a local man from drowning.

Another new drama, ‘Little White Lies’, produced by Element Films, will reach our screens this summer. The feature length drama, written by Stuart Carolan (Navan Man) and Barry Murphy (Après Match), stars Andrew Scott (Dead Bodies) and Elaine Cassidy (Disco Pigs, Room with a View) and tells the tale of Barry (Scott), a down-on-his-luck actor whose life and career have fallen apart since he was dumped by his high-flying girlfriend.

“These productions consolidate our continuing commitment to the Irish public to provide a broad range of high-quality, home-produced drama,” said Jane Gogan, Drama Commissioning Editor for RTÉ Television. “New dramas, ‘Little White Lies’ and ‘Raw’ will bring emerging as well as experienced acting, producing and writing talent to the screen to deliver engaging, entertaining and uniquely Irish drama. Catering for a diversity of audiences and tastes, we will also be commissioning more drama in the coming months.”
