Filmmaker Jim Sheridan (My Left Foot, In the Name of the Father) will be present at the closing night screening of In America at the Fifth Annual Boston Irish Film Festival.
Celebrating Ireland and the Irish on screen, the Boston Irish Film Festival is the largest event of its kind in the United States. This year's event (scheduled for April 24-29) features the 32 features, shorts, and documentaries and offers awards in three categories, Best Feature, Best Documentary, Best Short/Animation with an additional Director's Choice Award.
Among the titles screening at this year's event are Puckoon, Give Up Yer Aul Sins - The Series, Boxed, Photos to Send, Disco Pigs, and The Ghost of Roger Casement.
Receiving its East Coast premiere, In America will close the event at the beautiful 600-seat Coolidge Corner Theatre, a recently-restored art-deco movie house centrally located in the Boston-area. The Boston Irish Film Festival is proud to have Jim Sheridan attend the event. Says, festival director Peter Flynn: "Sheridan's work as writer, director, and producer, has done more for the image of Ireland and the Irish on screen than any other filmmaker I know of. Its a great honor to have him at this year's event, especially as it marks our first ever BIFF awards. For the new generation of Irish filmmakers Sheridan is proof that filmmakers can do good work and be applauded for it. In its own way that's what the Irish Film Festival is about. And Jim Sheridan's presence here endorses that mission."
