Amharc Eile, a film festival dedicated to the role of women behind the camera in Irish cinema, will take place from 9th-12th October in Washington DC. The festival will include feature length, documentaries and short films offering a rare overview of Irish cinema for the past 15 years.

Amharc Eile has been created and is organised by Solas Nua, a US group that promotes contemporary Irish art in America. Films featured in the festival include Kirsten Sheridan's ‘Disco Pigs’, Trish McAdam's ‘Snakes and Ladder’s and Margo Harken's ‘Hush-A-Bye Baby’ and among the short films screening are Sonya Supple-Gildea’s ‘Bodyblow’, Neasa Hardiman’s ‘Olive’ and ‘Treasure’, Pat Murphy's ‘What Miro Saw’ and Audrey O'Reilly's ‘Clare sa Speir’.

Solas Nua is also calling for entries from Irish filmmakers for its Spring Film Festival taking place in 2006. Based upon the theme of “magic in the Irish experience” the festival is calling for features, documentaries and shorts that “offer alternative and unusual ways of perceiving Ireland, coupled with an innovative filmic style” for consideration.
