The Irish Film Archive at the IFI have teamed with the Czech Film Summer School to provide one of the largest retrospectives of Irish Culture in history, running from the 22 – 31st of July 2005 in the town of Uherske Hradiste near the Austrian border.

For over 40 years the Czech Summer Film School has been offering film fans a unique opportunity to experience not only International and Czech film but also other branches of art:theatre, literature, visual arts and music. In 2005, the festival will screen over 50 Irish feature films to audiences of over 120,000.
The selection of feature length and short films has been compiled by the Irish Film Archive (of the Irish Film Institute) and Dr Harvey O'Brien of the O'Kane Centre for Film Studies UCD. Irish director Paddy Breathnach will travel to the festival where two of his feature films, ‘I Went Down’ and ‘Man About Dog’ will be screening. Amongst others, the festival will include Sean Walsh’s IFTA winning feature ‘Bloom’, the Sheridan family will be well represented with Peter Sheridan’s ‘The Borstal Boy’, Kirsten Sheridan’s ‘Disco Pigs’ and Jim Sheridan’s ‘In America’ & ‘My Left Foot’ all confirmed to screen. In addition, there will be a special Czech premiere of Alan Parker's 'The Commitments' will be screened with many of the original cast including Bronagh Gallagher, Maria Doyle Kennedy and Glen Hansard in attendance. Other features confirmed include; Terry George’s ‘Hotel Rwanda’, Liz Gill’s ‘Goldfish Memory’, and Pat O’Connor’s ‘Dancing At Lughnasa’.
Irish musical acts will include Iarla O’Lionaird, Paddy Keenan and Mickey Dunne and the work of Joyce, Wilde, Shaw, Beckett, Stoker, Swift and John McGahern will be explored through readings and screenings.
