Irish Film New York kicks off tomorrow with a spotlight on the best of Irish film and a roundtable discussion with some of Ireland’s award-wining directors.
Six new features – ‘Pilgrim Hill’, ‘Dollhouse’, ‘Bernadette – Notes on a Political Scandal’, ‘Death of a Superhero’, ‘Jump’ and ‘Baby Girl’ will all screen over the three-day event.
Directors Kirsten Sheridan (Dollhouse), Kieron J Walsh (Jump), Macdara Vallely (Baby Girl) and Lelia Doolan (Bernadette) will take part in a roundtable discussion tomorrow, which will be facilitated by executive director of IFNY Niall McKay.
IFNY is the organisation which brings the most contemporary Irish filmmaking to New York. This year marks the second year IFNY has curated a series of Irish features, after it hosted a three-day event where six films screened in 2011.
McKay is the director behind Emmy-winning ‘Sikhs in California’ and the documentary ‘The Bass Player’. He also curates the San Francisco and Los Angeles Irish Film Festivals.
IFNY screened four Irish Oscar-nominated shorts earlier this month – ‘The Shore’, ‘Six Shooter’, ‘Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty’ and ‘The Door’.
