Red Pepper's 'Only Fools Buy Horses', Hector OhEochagain's English language series, has been released on DVD and video for the Christmas market. Having had enough of losing his hard-earned cash at the bookies the confirmed gambler decides to bite the bullet and do it on his own - he buys his own racehorse Traverse! So, in this new DVD and video of his documentary, Only Fools Buy Horses, you can follow the fortunes of Hector as he enters the exclusive world of horseracing - as the rookie owner of a thoroughbred horse.
Hector is well known to TV audiences through his successful show on TG4, the highly acclaimed award-winning TV Amu, which has seen him travel from one end of the globe to the next. (Hector was the recipient of three Irish Film and Television Awards for this show recently). This documentary Only Fools Buy Horses was the first time for Hector to present an RTE show in English with the action taking place a little closer to home and sees Hector fulfil a lifelong dream. Armed with a little knowledge and a lot of enthusiasm, Hector’s quest is to become a successful racehorse owner but he quickly realises he has a lot to learn. While very familiar with the inside of the bookies – Hector is a novice in the world of buying and selling racehorses and he doesn’t have much of a budget to play with…
He enlists the help of a team of experts - owner Padraic Maloney, trainer PJ Flynn and bloodstock agent Eamon Reilly. His search takes him from Smithfield horse market to the heart of English racing at Newmarket, where he buys his horse. This is only the beginning of Hector’s adventures as he takes his new best friend back to Ireland to train him up for the Irish flat season.
The DVD/Video which is widely available throughout the country also contains much unseen footage from the documentary including Traverse’s first ever victory on an Irish racetrack. Hector will be making Personal Appearances in record stores all over Ireland in November and December.
