October Eleven Pictures’ current feature project ‘3 Crosses’ - which has recently seen the crew return from a ‘shoot’ in a –40 degree Vermont in the United States - is moving ahead at a steady pace. The film stars Karl Hayden (‘Da’, ‘Patriot Games’) Marian Araujo (‘Dead Meat’) and up-and-coming talent Emmet Scanlan. The film concerns the volatile relationship between two Polish-Irish brothers, Jay (Karl Hayden) and Jonnie Linski (Emmet Scanlan), as they try to come to terms with the brutal murder of their youngest sibling, Danny. Set in an ultra-violent noirish Dublin ‘underworld’, the film promises to be a ‘furious tale of retribution and consequence’.
October Eleven Pictures’ first feature project, the 80 minute documentary ‘The Twilight Hour: Visions Of Ireland’s Haunted Past’ was one of four films from Ireland chosen for the European Union Film Festival held at the prestigious Gene Siskel Film Centre at the Chicago Institute of Art in March 2003. The Programme Director, Barbara Scharres described the film with the following words…”This is one of the most beautifully mood-drenched films of the festival” and further reviews from J.R Jones at the revered arts magazine, the Chicago Reader says: “Both the color footage (shot in 'preternaturualscope') and Marsden's dramatic black and white stills conjure a spectral atmosphere - Figgis creates some chilling dream sequences for his leonine ghosthunter and as in the stories of Marsden's Hero, Edgar Allan Poe, the primary tone is one not of feat but classical beauty". Following a very successful charity premiere at Charleville Castle in Tullamore (in aid of the chapel roof restoration fund) in December 2002 to a capacity audience (at €25 a head), the supernatural docudrama has also been shown in Venice as part of an Italian book launch and the film has recently been invited as part of an official selection for Britain’s biggest Supernatural convention GHOSTCON to be held in Nottingham in October 2003. The film will also be shown at London’s cult venue, The Electric Cinema in early November. Two further invitations in Britain for December are being finalised at present.
October Eleven Pictures’ short black and white ghost story ‘Pallida Mors’ which premiered at the Irish Film Centre’s Horrorthon Weekend of Horrors in October 2002, was recently selected for Spain’s Arcana Europa Film & Music Festival in Madrid where a subtitled version entertained the audience. A period drama set in 1939, 1940 and 1974, the film concerns the memories of an ageing lawyer as he recounts a disturbing chapter in his life that saw the relentless haunting of him by the malicious spirit of a brutally murdered woman.
