The 4th Annual Film Fleadh (
www.filmfleadh.com) wrapped on Sunday March 24th.
Ed Burns (Actor) kicked off the festival on 3/14 @ SUGAR. Malachy McCourt was
in attendance on Closing Night for the FDNY Tribute to Father Mike Judge
(MONTHS MIND) directed by Brendan Fay) Malachy gave an appropriate Irish
toast to the sold out show at NYU Cantor when he remarked "Live everyday as
though it was your last and one day you will be right". Others in attendance
over the weekend were Connie Britton, Robert Burke, Denis Hamill and Irish
stars such as Orla Brady and Elaine Cassidy.
The Kodak Audience Award went to "If I Should Fall From Grace" directed by
Sarah Share. Tom Collins (Teenage Kicks) accepted the award on her behalf as
Sarah was headed to the airport off to the next festival. The 2002 Script Winner went to Boston based scribe Ed Mannix for his script "The Dirtmakers (Jesus was an Irishman). Runner-up Scripts
were: Danny Boy, Dies Irae, Blood, Sugar & Vodka and First Offence.
Denis Hamill (Author) said "It’s (Film Fleadh) fast becoming one of the most
important festivals in NY".
Terence Mulligan, the festival director and founder went one step further "I
think we’re past the infancy stage here now and as long as we keep showcasing
quality films this festival will always be around and hopefully we can do a
four city tour next year".
The festival set new attendance records and screened 4 U.S Premiers Film
Fleadh is a launching pad for the best of New Irish Cinema. The Film Fleadh
is working on a quarterly "Script Series" to take place at the Irish Arts
