The Ireland on Screen stand at MIPTV this month will host only four Irish companies. Compared with previous years (9 in 2000, 9 in 2001, 10 in 2002), four companies have registered through Enterprise Ireland to participate on the stand; Ardmore Studios, Network Ireland Television, Like It Love It and Tyrone Productions. Other Irish companies will have their own stands at MIP, including Monster Distributes who traditionally have a stand in the Marketplace, and RTE International.
A number of factors have contributed to this; the general downturn in delegate numbers, particularly from the US; changes in the marketplace as broadcasters have little discretionary money and are not committing to long term tv schedules; a decrease in marketing budgets in the broadcasting and tv production sector, and to a very large extent a change in the way companies are doing business.
Enterprise Ireland, who substantially support the national stand annually, will have to consider if they can continue to support the Ireland On Screen stand in the future if there is no interest from the Irish broadcasting and production sector.
MIPTV is running concurrently with MILIA this year. Full details are available at: www.miptv.com
