In July 2002 the Young Irish Film Makers organised the first ever National Youth Film School. A five week course, during which the students shot a; ‘The Children’, a television feature film about a group of children trying to get through a war torn country.
The film is now in the final four in the Moondance Film Festival in Colorado, and was runner-up at the George Lindsay UNA Film Festival, Alabama.
The organisation also runs short film courses, half day, full day and weekend. Their weekend course produced “Bloody Chancers”, a 7 min. short that won the Fresh Film Festival this year.
The only school of it’s kind in Europe, open to young people all over Ireland, they are currently organising their second National Youth Film Summer School, bringing young people from all over Ireland to Kilkenny for a five week intensive Film Production Course.
The second National Youth Film school takes place this summer, July 7th to August 8th (25 places open to teenagers aged 13-20 years).
