Ten projects have been shortlisted for the first round of the Filmbase/RTÉ Short Film Awards in 2011. The projects were chosen from over 300 applications battling it out for just two final funding awards. Each team will now be invited to interview at Filmbase to determine who will be awarded funding through the scheme. more |

CASTING | Steve McQueen & Michael Fassbender Together Again for '12 Years a Slave'

Irish actor Michael Fassbender is to reunite with helmer McQueen for '12 Years a Slave'. Chiwetel Ejiofor (Children of Men, American Gangster) will join Fassbender in the feature which tells the true story of Solomon Northrup, a New York citizen who was kidnapped in Washington in 1841 and sold to a cotton plantation in Louisiana, where he was enslaved for over a decade, before being rescued in 1853. McQueen co-wrote the script for '12 Years a Slave' with John Ridley (U Turn).
